The domain business has been deregulated!
Domain names ending with .com, .net or .org can now be registered through many different companies (known as "registrars") that compete with one another.

The Shared Registration System
The database at "InterNIC" (www.internic.net) contains only technical information about the registered domain name and referral information for the registrar of the domain name. In the Shared Registration System model, registrars are responsible for maintaining Whois domain name contact information. Now each domain registrar keeps his own WHOIS database which doesn't include domains registered by competing registrars.

How to get accurate domain name lookups?
In this changing system of increased competition and new registrars, the only way to get absolutely accurate domain reports is to:

Whoix.com (www.whoix.com) searches the shared database registry and queries the appropriate registrar.

lookup the domain in the shared domain registry at InterNIC

locate which registrar has reserved the name

visit and query that registrar's database for the correct information

display full information about the domain

Other Domains:
Two letter domains, such as .uk, .de and .jp (for example), are called country code top level domains (ccTLDs) and correspond to a country, territory, or other geographic location. Whoix? queries the databases from all available ccTLDs and delivers accurate search results.
